GNU R package pcaL1: L1-Norm PCA Methods

Installation of the precompiled binary version of the package on Windows
should work as for any other package:

install.packages("pcaL1")
 
For other operating systems, you need to install the COIN-OR Clp header files
and libraries.  You may need to specify their location as well.  If the header 
files and libraries are in default search locations, then you can install the 
package using: 

install.packages("pcaL1", type="source")

If the header files and libraries are not installed in default search locations,
you may need to specify their location, for example: 

install.packages("pcaL1", configure.args="--prefix=/usr/local/coin-Clp", \
                  type="source")

Most Linux distributions have Clp header files and libraries available as a 
package; for example, Ubuntu Linux has coinor-libclp-dev; Fedora has coin-or-Clp-devel.  For Mac OS X,
the necessary files can be installed with Homebrew (https://brew.sh) using:

brew tap coin-or-tools/coinor
brew install clp

Otherwise, follow instructions on installing/compiling the libraries from 
http://www.coin-or.org.

When installing from source, the pcaL1 package needs to know where to
find the COIN-OR Clp include directory and where to find the callable library.

If the Clp library is not installed in a standard location, you may need to 
set LD_LIBRARY_PATH or use ldconfig to specify the path.

If you just use

   R CMD INSTALL pcaL1_X.X.tar.gz

the configure script will check if pkg-config is installed and knows about 
where Clp is installed.  If not, the script will then check to see if clp is
in the PATH and use the PATH as the prefix.  If clp is not in the PATH, 
then the script checks /usr/local/coin-Clp/include and /usr/local/coin-Clp/lib.

Alternatively, you can specify the location of the include and library 
directories in one of three ways:

1) Use --with-clp-<ARG>

   --with-clp-include=PATH      with PATH being the include directory of
                                COIN-OR Clp

   --with-clp-lib=PATH          with PATH being the directory containing the
                                callable library.

   R CMD INSTALL --configure-args=" \
       --with-clp-include=/path/to/include/dir \
       --with-clp-lib=/path/to/lib/dir" pcaL1_X.X.tar.gz

   When using --with-clp-<ARG>, both arguments must be given.

2) Use of environment variables

   CLP_INCLUDE                 giving the PATH to the include directory of
                               COIN-OR Clp
   CLP_LIB                     giving the PATH to the directory containing the
                               callable library.

3) Use --prefix

   --prefix=PATH               with path being the installation directory of
                               COIN-OR Clp. The include directory is assumed to
                               be PATH/include and the callable library should
                               be in PATH/lib.

For the installation on Windows systems the file Makevars.win in src/ is
required. The file looks like this:

with the environment variable CLP_PATH being the installation directory
of COIN-OR Clp.
